Getting rid of rats
07/1/2019
We've experienced a huge increase in the number of call-outs from Cambridge residents and commercial clients for the removal of rats and mice from homes and buildings this winter.
Left untreated, rats can cause a devastating amount of destruction to your home, furniture and buildings. They also present a real risk of spreading disease.
Adding to the problem, so-called super rats are becoming resistant to DIY rat poisons (which unfortunately can cause significant harm to domestic pets and wildlife).
To get rid of rats effectively DRE Pest Control in Cambridge recommend using a professional pest controller.
Where to check for a rat problem in your building
Attics / lofts - if you can hear running and scratching in your attic it's highly like you have a rat problem in your loft. Check for shredded papper, gnawing, rat droppings, chewed cables and boxes etc.
Kitchens & utility rooms - rats like to hide under kitchen cabinets, appliances and can access your home through the holes in the wall for cables and drainage pipes.
Small, dark spaces - rats will make their nests in sheltered, hard to reach places such cracks in the wall or underneath items in your loft or shed.
How to tell if you have a rat problem
Rats and mice can be a real nuisance and present a real public safety issue. Effective pest control is critical to offer protection in our homes and businesses and as professional pest controllers we can help minimise rat activity with a range of pest control techniques.
You can also take some protective steps and get rid of rats in your home. You can help prevent rodents invading your home and garden by making sure all waste food is in sealed bins with closed lids. It’s also a good idea to look for gaps or holes around pipes and cables entering buildings and make sure they are adequately sealed. Bear in mind that if you can get a pencil in to the gap, the rodent can enter as well.
