How to get rid of carpet moths

25/11/2018

Moths in your home could cause hundreds, if not thousands of pounds in damage to clothes, carpets, curtains and other soft furnishings, if left untreated.  The humble carpet moth may look innocent enough, however the presence of moths in your home should not be ignored.

How to get rid of carpet moths in your home

The biggest threat to your home is not so much the adult carpet moths themselves but carpet moth larvae, which like to feed on natural materials and fabrics, e.g. old woollen carpets, woollens clothes, fur coats, and feathers.

Carpet Moth larvae are generally found under carpets, in wardrobes and anywhere you store natural fabrics and materials.  If you suspect that you have moths and moth larvae in your home, we would advise treating the larvae as quickly as possible and reduce the amount of damage they could cause if left untreated.

How to spot a carpet moth infestation

The first thing most people notice is the damage caused to clothes, fabrics or carpets but there are other indicators of a moth infestation:

  • Small maggot like larvae (moth caterpillars)
  • Silken tubes or 'cases' in which the moth larvae live
  • Pupae (silk cocoons) from which larvae eventually emerge as adult moths
  • Adult moths that are often crawling rather than flying

We are qualifed to safely and effectively treat carpet moth larvae in your home, so please contact us on 07789 502556 or info@drepestcontrol.co.uk.
