Spiders invading your home

10/9/2018

While the numbers of wasps might be dwindling with autumn on it's way, spiders are on the move. At this time of year male house spiders come in looking for females as they can often be found in safe places such as houses or sheds.

Thankfully, most spiders in the UK are harmless to humans although some species can give you a nasty bite. The False widow spider has been known to cause painful reactions in some people, although spider bites are rare.

Spiders invading home

Spiders are hugely important to our ecological system, feasting on the smaller insects and flies that invade our homes, although they do get a bad rep and not everyone appreciates spiders.

If you're worried about spiders getting in to your home, there are a number of preventive measures you can take:

  • Fill the cracks. seals around window and door frames;
  • Cover plug/ sink holes;
  • Turn off lights that attract insects in to your home (a spiders favourite food);
  • Use a dust pan a brush to take spiders outside
  • Hoover floorboards regularly, spiders like dark, dusty spaces to hide in.
