The most common pests invading your home

08/1/2019

A pest problem in your home can cause sigificant damage and stress. While we can often live in relative harmony with a small number of house guests, such as spiders (which are extremely effective pest controllers in their own right), there are some pests, that if left untreated can cause a real threat to our homes, property and health.  Below are some of the most common pests we treat.

Mice

House Mice are active all year round, making them one of the most common pests in our homes and gardens. Left untreated, mice can cause significant damage to furnishings, furniture and are known to spread disease.  They are often found in kitchens, lofts and sheds, in fact anywhere they find shelter, safety and food. Our homes often make the perfect breeding environment for mice.

Rats

Rats are most likely to be seek shelter in homes during autumn and winter.  Our homes provide a safe, warm environment for rats to hunker down during the colder months.  They are most active at night and like mice can cause significant damage to furniture and also spread disease.

Getting rid of rats in your home yourself can be difficult.  So-called super rats are becoming increasingly resistant to DIY rat poisons, which often have a potentially damaging effect on domestic animals and wildlife.

Carpet Moths

Untreated, these harmless looking insects can cause hundreds, if not potentially thousands of pounds in damage to clothes, carpets and soft furnishings in our homes.

Carpet Moth larvae are generally found under carpets, in wardrobes and anywhere you store natural fabrics and materials.  If you suspect that you have moths and moth larvae in your home, we would advise treating the larvae as quickly as possible and reduce the amount of damage they could cause if left untreated.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are particularly unwelcome house guests. They are attracted to warm, safe environments with access to a reliable food source, which is why cockroaches tend to be found in kitchens and often hide in the cracks and cervices of walls.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are a big problem, especially for hotels and B&B’s, however bed bugs are found in virtually every place people tend to gather including our homes.

Bed bugs are generally found on bedding and mattresses; however, evidence of bed bugs can be found in skirting boards, light fittings, headboards and even in the cracks and cervices of bed frames and bedside furniture. Bed Bugs feed on human blood and are extremely difficult to get rid of because they reproduce so quickly, however heat treatement is very effective in getting rid of bed bugs infestations.

We provide effective pest control services to eliminate small pest problems within your home.  We would always recommend you seek professional pest control services to treat rodent and insect problems.  If you suspect a pest problem in your home, contact DRE Pest Control Cambridge on  01954 230 208 or info@drepestcontrol.co.uk
